General appearance

Smooth-coated, well balanced, muscular, active and agile. Great strength for size. Despite muscular appearance, should never appear coarse or lack agility.

Size

  • Height: 35.5-40.5 cm (14-16 inches) at withers
  • Weight: Dogs 12.7-17 kg (28-38 lbs), Bitches 11-15.4 kg (24-34 lbs)

Head

  • Short, deep with broad skull
  • Pronounced cheek muscles
  • Distinct stop
  • Short foreface
  • Black nose
  • Dark eyes preferred, round
  • Rose or half-pricked ears

Body and movement

  • Level topline, short and muscular
  • Deep, wide chest
  • Well-sprung ribs
  • Free, powerful movement with economy of effort
  • Legs moving parallel when viewed from front/rear

Temperament

Traditionally "nanny dog" - affectionate especially with children. Bold, fearless, totally reliable. Highly intelligent, with great strength of character.

🐾 Breeder's advice

Pet quality doesn't mean lesser dog - it means minor conformational details. A wonderful family dog can have slightly incorrect ear set or minor faults that don't affect health or temperament.
